Diversity Visa Program (Green Card Lottery)

Author: Valery Anatolievich

The Diversity Visa Program, commonly known as the Green Card Lottery, is an annual program run by the U.S. Department of State.

It offers 55,000 immigrant visas to individuals from countries with historically low rates of immigration to the United States.

Eligibility Criteria

- Must be a native of an eligible country (list changes annually).

- High school education or its equivalent, OR two years of work experience within the past five years in an occupation that requires at least two years of training.

Process

1. Submit an online entry during the annual application window.

2. If selected, you'll receive a notification to proceed with the application.

3. Complete background checks, medical exams, and an interview at a U.S. consulate or embassy.

4. If approved, you receive a Diversity Visa to enter the U.S. and later acquire a green card.

Points to Consider

- The program is free to enter, but there are fees if you are selected and decide to proceed with the application.

- Winning the lottery does not guarantee a visa; you must meet all eligibility criteria.

- Scams related to the Green Card Lottery are common; always refer to official sources.
