The L-1 visa allows intra-company transferees to work at a U.S. office of their current employer. It has two subcategories: L-1A for managers and executives, and L-1B for employees with specialized knowledge.

Eligibility Criteria

- Must be employed by a multinational company and be transferred to a U.S. office.

- Should hold either managerial, executive, or specialized knowledge roles.

Process

1. Employer files Form I-140 under EB-1C for L-1A or other appropriate employment categories for L-1B.

2. Wait for a visa number to become available.

3. Apply for Adjustment of Status.

Points to Consider

- L-1A visa holders have a generally easier path to green cards under the EB-1C category.

- L-1B to green card paths may be more challenging and are generally under the EB-2 or EB-3 categories.
